Rate increases

Auburn Washington rates for waste management have been increased to reflect the increasing cost of service. The current rates are too low to cover the actual costs of the service. The new rates will impact both residential and business customers. The residential rate will go up by 29-48 percent. Residents who have a 35-gallon waste container will see a $7.45 increase per month while those who have a 45 gallon container will see an $8.30 rise per month.

According to the Washington Department of Ecology, in the calendar year 2013, the city received approximately 3.42 pounds of recyclable material per capita. That number is expected to increase 1 percent per year.

WM (formerly Waste Management), will be the sole hauler for solid waste collection in Auburn.

WM (formerly Waste Management), offers residential trash, recycling and food scraps collection. Collections take place on scheduled days each week. Yard waste and food scraps need to be placed in Kraft papers bags or containers marked "X". Residents are allowed to place six bags/containers a week during the April-November collection season.

FAQ

What are the four main functions of management?

Management is responsible for organizing, managing, directing and controlling people, resources, and other activities. It includes the development of policies and procedures as well as setting goals.

Management aids an organization in reaching its goals by providing direction and coordination, control, leadership motivation, supervision, training, evaluation, and leadership.

Management has four primary functions:

Planning - Planning refers to deciding what is needed.

Organizing - Organization involves deciding what should be done.

Directing - Directing means getting people to follow instructions.

Controlling - This is the ability to control people and ensure that they do their jobs according to plan.

What is a management tool to help with decision-making?

A decision matrix, a simple yet powerful tool for managers to make decisions, is the best. They can think about all options and make informed decisions.

A decision matrix is a way of representing alternatives as rows and columns. It is easy to see how each option affects the other options.

In this example, we have four possible alternatives represented by the boxes on the left side of the matrix. Each box represents a different option. The top row shows the status quo (the current situation), and the bottom row shows what would happen if nothing was done at all.

The effect of selecting Option 1 is shown in the middle column. It would translate into an increase in sales from $2million to $3million.

The results of choosing Option 2 and 3 can be seen in the columns below. These are both positive changes that increase sales by $1million and $500,000. These positive changes have their downsides. For instance, Option 2 increases cost by $100 thousand while Option 3 reduces profits by $200 thousand.

Finally, the last column shows the results of choosing Option 4. This involves decreasing sales by $1 million.

The best thing about a decision matrix is the fact that you don't have to remember which numbers go with what. You just look at the cells and know immediately whether any given a choice is better than another.

This is because the matrix has already taken care of the hard work for you. It's as easy as comparing numbers in the appropriate cells.

Here's a sample of how you might use decision matrixes in your business.

It is up to you to decide whether to spend more money on advertising. If you do, you'll be able to increase your revenue by $5 thousand per month. You'll also have additional expenses up to $10,000.

Look at the cell immediately below the one that states "Advertising" to calculate the net investment in advertising. It's $15,000. Advertising is a worthwhile investment because it has a higher return than the costs.

What are the three main management styles you can use?

The three major management styles are authoritarian (left-faire), participative and laissez -faire. Each style has its strengths and weaknesses. What style do you prefer? Why?

Authoritarian - The leader sets the direction and expects everyone to comply with it. This style is best when the organization has a large and stable workforce.

Laissez faire - Each individual can decide for himself/herself. This style is best when the organization has a small but dynamic group.

Participative - The leader listens to ideas and suggestions from everyone. This style is most effective in smaller organizations, where everyone feels valued.

How To

How do you implement Quality Management Plans (QMPs)?

QMP (Quality Management Plan) is a system to improve products and services by implementing continuous improvement. It helps to improve customer satisfaction and product/service quality by continuously measuring, analyzing, controlling and improving.

The QMP is a standard method used to ensure good business performance. QMP helps improve production, service delivery and customer relationships. QMPs must include all three elements - Products, Services, and Processes. The QMP that only addresses one aspect of the process is called a Process QMP. QMPs that focus on a Product/Service are known as "Product" QMPs. QMP stands for Customer Relationships.

Scope is the most important element in implementing a QMP. Strategy is the second. They are defined as follows:

Scope: This is the scope of the QMP and its duration. If your organization wishes to implement a QMP lasting six months, the scope will determine the activities during the first six month.

Strategy: This describes how you will achieve the goals in your scope.

A typical QMP comprises five phases: Planning and Design, Development, Construction, Implementation, Maintenance. Below is a description of each phase:

Planning: This stage identifies and prioritizes the QMP's objectives. To get to know the expectations and requirements, all stakeholders are consulted. The next step is to create the strategy for achieving those objectives.

Design: The design stage involves the development of vision, mission strategies, tactics, and strategies that will allow for successful implementation. These strategies can be implemented through the creation of detailed plans.

Development: Here the development team works toward building the necessary resources and capabilities to support the successful implementation.

Implementation involves the actual implementation using the planned strategies.

Maintenance: It is an ongoing process that maintains the QMP over time.

Additionally, the QMP should include additional items:

Participation of Stakeholders: The QMP's success depends on the participation of stakeholders. They should actively be involved during the planning and development, implementation, maintenance, and design stages of QMP.

Initiation of a Project: A clear understanding and application of the problem statement is crucial for initiating a project. In other words, they must understand the motivation for initiating the project and the expectations of the outcome.

Time Frame: The time frame of the QMP is very critical. For a short time, you can start with the simple version of the QMP. You may need to upgrade if you plan on implementing the QMP for a long time.

Cost Estimation: Cost estimation is another vital component of the QMP. You cannot plan without knowing how much money you will spend. Before you start the QMP, it is important to estimate your costs.

QMPs are more than just documents. They can also be updated as needed. It evolves as the company grows and changes. It should be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that it is still meeting the company's needs.
